Is it true that “Your Mess has a Message?” Part 4: Do you ever feel that your work life is a mess?

“Without conscious or deliberate effort,
Inertia always wins.”
~ Tony Hsieh

I recently read in a news blog that “Gallup’s polls have consistently found that only about a third of people working in Western society truly find their work engaging and fulfilling. This is a sad reflection of the relative apathy and lack of joy that the majority of us feel in our jobs.

Far too many of us feel undeserving and unready to rise to the next level. We question our values and wait for external validation, promotion or certification before we start believing in ourselves.

Does it sound like you or someone you know?

From a Drifter to a Decision Maker

“The Oxford dictionary defines Drifter as a person who is continually moving from place to place, without a fixed home or job. In the context of the book, a drifter is someone who lacks a definite major aim in life. Back in the early 20th century when the book had been originally written by the author, the percentage of people who could be classified as drifters were in the vicinity of 98 per cent. Looking at our society today, I suspect that percentage has not changed much. If anything, it has gone up further.”

The above is an excerpt from: “Your Mess has a Message” by Dr Arun Dhir.

“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high, and we miss it,
but that it is too low, and we reach it.”
~ Michelangelo

Napolean Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich writes,
“The man with the most definite plan of purpose has the most power and rides on to victory. While the drifters scurry for cover and get crushed under the wheels of time for it does not care for those who drift, only those with a clear purpose and a definite plan to achieve it, get spared.”

As I read further on drifting, I learnt that what lies at the core of this habit is the inability to make a decision. Also called procrastination, the opposite of decision-making, this is a common enemy of people’s dreams and desires.

Inspired Action: The Basis of True Inspiration

Decision making comes when we have come to know our values and what we stand for. This is what leads to ‘Inspired Action’- an action that is borne of an ‘Inspiration’.

That is when all procrastination melts away.
